Alabama Amendment 1: “Franklin County Board of Education Land Management Authorization”

In 2024, voters in Alabama will be able to vote on changing the constitution in their state. The state constitution is a set of laws that say what the government can and cannot do. A change in the constitution is called an amendment. The constitution will change if enough people vote for the amendment.

Alabama “Franklin County Board of Education Land Management Authorization” is about land for public schools. If it passes:

  • The ballot measure would make changes to the Alabama Constitution of 2022.

    • Constitution: a binding set of rules that people have to follow in Alabama

  • The state wants to give some land to the Franklin County School System. This land is special because it was set aside for schools a long time ago.

  • The land is in Fayette County and Walker County

  • The land is meant for the schools in the Franklin County School System only.

  • The land would belong to the Franklin County Board of Education.

  • If the state gives the land to the board, the board can sell it or rent it out.

  • Any money made from the land will go to the Franklin County schools.

  • This money will help the schools buy new books, computers, and other things they need.

Voting “yes” for this amendment means you want it to become law.

Voting “no” for this amendment means you do NOT want it to become law.
