Arkansas Issue 2: Countywide Voter Approval for New Casino Licenses and Repeal Casino Licenses in Pope County Initiative (2024)

• In 2024, voters in Arkansas will be able to vote on changing the constitution in their state. The state constitution is a set of laws that say what the government can and cannot do. A change in the constitution is called an amendment. The constitution will change if enough people vote for the amendment.

• Countywide Approval for New Casino Licenses and Repeal Casino Licenses in Pope County Initiative is about building a casino. If it passes, building a casino in Arkansas would change.

  • If it passes, permission to grant a casino license or build a casino in Pope County would be taken away

    • Casino: a place where people go to play games of chance, like slot machines, card games, or roulette, in the hope of winning money. It's usually a large building with many different games and entertainment options, and people use money to place bets on the games.

    • Casino license: official permission given by the government that allows a company to legally operate a casino. Without this license, a company cannot run a casino or offer gambling games to people. The license ensures that the casino follows certain rules to keep everything fair and safe for players.

  • No new casinos can be built in any county except Crittenden, Garland, or Jefferson.

  • If people want to build a casino in a different county, they have to ask the county leaders.

  • The leaders would then have to hold a special vote.

    Voting “yes” for this amendment means you want it to become law.

    Voting “no” for this amendment means you do NOT want it to become law.
