Florida Amendment 2: Right to Fish and Hunt Amendment (2024)

  • In 2024, voters in Florida will be able to vote on changing the constitution in their state. The state constitution is a set of laws that say what the government can and cannot do. A change in the constitution is called an amendment. The constitution will change if enough people vote for the amendment.

    • “Florida Amendment 2, Right to Fish and Hunt Amendment” is about fishing and hunting. If it passes:

      • People will have the right to fish and hunt safely.

      • It will also make sure that the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission can still do its job. The Commission is in charge of making sure that fish and wildlife are safe.

Voting “yes” for this amendment means you want it to become law.

Voting “no” for this amendment means you do NOT want it to become law.

Florida Amendment 2 Original Text

Additional Context & Our Stance:

This would establish hunting and fishing as preferred ways to manage wildlife in Florida, and aims to protect these activities from future bans. Some in Florida see this as a way to protect Florida’s culture, while others think it’s unnecessary as there are already laws protecting hunting and fishing, and worry this will allow for bad practices that put animals and parts of nature at risk of harm. While there is a chance not passing this law could limit accessible fishing locations or adaptive hunting equipment for disabled people to fish or hunt, it is more likely that the emphasis on “traditional methods” in this law would impact the spaces available for disabled people to interact with nature.

Disabled voters and those who care about us should vote NO to Florida Amendment 2: “Right to Hunt & Fish.”

Voting NO means you do not want to include the right to hunt and fish as a protected public right. This would keep the current rules in place. So, a NO vote means that you believe the existing laws are okay.
