Florida Amendment 3: Marijuana Legalization Initiative (2024)
In 2024, voters in Florida will be able to vote on changing the constitution in their state. The state constitution is a set of laws that say what the government can and cannot do. A change in the constitution is called an amendment. The constitution will change if enough people vote for the amendment.
Florida “Amendment 3: Marijuana Legalization Initiative” is about who can buy and use marijuana. If it passes:
In Florida, adults who are 21 years old or older could buy and use marijuana. They could use it for fun, not just for medical reasons.
Marijuana: a plant that people use for medical or recreational purposes. It contains chemicals called THC and CBD that can affect the mind and body. When people use marijuana, they might smoke it, eat it in food, or use oils made from it. Marijuana can make a person feel relaxed or "high," but it can also be used to help with certain medical conditions, like pain or nausea. It’s sometimes called cannabis, weed, or pot.
This amendment would only apply to Florida and would not change any federal laws.
This amendment lets some businesses grow, make, and sell marijuana.
These businesses are called Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers and are licensed by the state.
This amendment tells people how much marijuana they can have for themselves.
It also makes sure that all the laws in Florida about marijuana are clear.
If the amendment gets enough votes, it will start 6 months after the election date.
Voting “yes” for this amendment means you want it to become law.
Voting “no” for this amendment means you do NOT want it to become law.
Additional Context & Our Stance:
Having less strict laws on cannabis (also known as marijuana) use will give disabled people access to relief from painful symptoms with less administrative steps than requiring medical documentation.
Disabled voters and those who care about us should vote YES to Florida Amendment 3: “Marijuana Legalization Initiative.”
Voting YES means you want to change the Florida constitution so that there are less restrictions on marijuana in Florida so that adults who are 21 years old or older could buy and use marijuana both for fun and for medical purposes.
