Florida Amendment 6: Repeal of Public Financing for Statewide Campaigns Amendment (2024)
In 2024, voters in Florida will be able to vote on changing the constitution in their state. The state constitution is a set of laws that say what the government can and cannot do. A change in the constitution is called an amendment. The constitution will change if enough people vote for the amendment.
Florida “Amendment 6: Repeal of Public Financing for Statewide Campaigns Amendment” is about using state taxes for political campaigns. If it passes:
People with campaigns would no longer be able to use public funding, which is tax money released by the state government
Campaign: the effort a candidate makes to win votes and get elected, involving things like speeches, advertisements, and events to persuade people to support them.
Voting “yes” for this amendment means you want it to become law.
Voting “no” for this amendment means you do NOT want it to become law.
Additional Context & Our Stance:
To pay for a political campaign, candidates can ask people for money and get money from the government. There's a rule in some states that if you want government money, you have to promise not to spend too much. Some think this rule is good because it makes sure everyone has a fair chance to run for office. Since this rule (called public financing) helps make sure even those without a lot of money can run for office, this law would make it harder for disabled people and other less-represented groups to run for office.
Disabled voters and those who care about us should vote NO to Florida Amendment 6: “Repeal of Public Financing for Statewide Campaigns.”
Voting NO means you support keeping public financing so that more people can run for public office in Florida.
