Samhit Utlapalli (they/them pronouns) is an intern with New Disabled South and New Disabled South Rising. They are a student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Justice and Equity Studies. Samhit is at the beginning of their career as a disability advocate but has been active in political and social justice spaces since high school.

Samhit has been vocal on issues such as gender, race, and sexuality for years. However, becoming disabled created a shift in how they approach social justice and equity. They were first part of the Young Advocates for Equality (YAFE) club in high school and then joined the South Asian Justice Collective (SAJC) in college. Samhit was also a social justice intern with the Moriah Group. Their main focus with each of these groups has been in communications. Now Samhit is working with different departments at NDS, gaining valuable experience.

In their free time, Samhit loves to consume anything with a plot (books, TV, movies, video games, etc.) and to play with their pets. They have two dogs and a cat. Samhit also enjoys crafting and crochets when their joints allow it.
