Fight beside us – or get out of our way.

61 million adults in the United States have a disability. This election cycle, there are 40 million eligible disabled voters. We’re one of the country’s largest and most powerful voting blocs. But we’ve been left out of the political conversation for far too long.

Note: A version with audio descriptions will be released early next week! Also, please find the full transcript at the bottom of this page.

Disabled people exist in every neighborhood in America. Our issues are everyone’s issues. Yes, accessibility. But also healthcare, the economy, jobs and all the other issues that affect all of us.

And we vote.

It’s time for lawmakers and political candidates to acknowledge our power - it’s time for them to see us. Hear us. Listen to us. Talk to us. Support us.

Fight beside us. Or get out of the way.

Our demand is simple: Consider the needs of the disability community within every policy priority.

  • Economic Opportunity: Address income inequality, barriers to job opportunities, and other realities that keep our community in poverty - at more than twice the rate of nondisabled people.

  • Clean Air and Masks: Protect disabled folks’ rights to access healthcare by requiring masks in healthcare, fighting against mask bans, and promoting clean air in essential public services like schools, hospitals, and transit.

  • Healthcare Coverage: Lift up the disabled community as critical voices in the fight to lower out-of-control healthcare costs, expand Medicaid, and invest in home and community-based services.

  • Children & Families: Center children and families living with disabilities - as well as their caregivers - in policy solutions that will give them more opportunities to live thriving, independent lives.

  • Affordable Housing: Ensure that people with disabilities are able to find affordable and accessible housing that allows them to live at home.

  • Racial Equity: End the discriminatory treatment of disabled people of color including in the criminal justice system, classroom, workplace, and the ballot box.

  • Reproductive Justice: Protect disabled people’s bodily autonomy, and the right to choose what that means for themselves and their families.

  • Voting Rights: Invest in solutions to end the disenfranchisement of disabled voters so everyone can access their right to vote.

Whether you are disabled, love someone who is disabled, or are an ally to the disabled community, our movement is growing.

JOIN US.

  • Let’s be honest, a majority of the time, people with disabilities are not being seen.

    We aren’t heard.

    We’re ignored.

    And overlooked.

    (Ahem)

    See what I mean?

But if you are in office or running for office, know this:

    There’s 61 million of us

    And we see you.

We see you when our medical bills arrive.

We see you when we’re searching for an accessible, affordable place to live.

We see you when we’re going to work

    Or class.

And we really see you when we vote.

    That’s right, disabled people vote.

Did we mention that there’s 61 million of us?

And not to brag or anything, but we’re pretty good at getting what we need.

    We’ve had practice.

    We won’t be forgotten

    Pushed to the side

    Or neglected

So if you want our vote?

    Take a good look around

    And see us.

    Listen to us.

    Talk to us.

    Support us.

    Fight beside us.

Or get out of the way.
