New Disabled South believes that access to accessible, quality education is a right, from preschool to higher education.
Disabled students deserve to be educated in school environments that are free from ableist barriers and provide accommodations and accessibility for all students based on their needs. Disabled students should be integrated into the school day, instead of segregated from their nondisabled classmates.
New Disabled South believes all public university campuses and schools should be fully accessible, meaning free of physical and academic barriers to students, regardless of their unique needs.
New Disabled South calls on policymakers and state leaders to champion innovative policies and programs that support disabled students in pursuing an accessible higher education. This includes supporting ADA compliance, robust student services (including Title IX offices), voting sites, and tuition assistance programs across public universities in the US South.
