Climate

We call for better climate preparedness and climate change prevention, with planning viewed through an intersectional lens of disability

Disabled people are often left behind when climate catastrophes occur. There is a lack of disabled voices and discussion of accessibility in disaster planning, whether it’s evacuation plans or the inaccessibility of emergency shelters.

New Disabled South believes that climate preparedness and climate change prevention should be looked at with an intersectional lens of disability to minimize the socioeconomic, physical, and mental burden that disabled people endure in the face of climate disaster.
